OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF QUEANBEYAN TOMORROW COMMUNITY VISION 2021 19 FEBRUARY 2007

The final document was launched a public event at Council on 19th February 2007. This vision represents input from more than 1,400 members of the community being gained through individual face to face meetings, stakeholder meetings as well as a wide range of other community events. Council is grateful to all those who contributed as well as to the Department of Planning who substantially funded the project through planning reform funds. The vision is contained in the document called "Queanbeyan Tomorrow Community Vision 2021: Our Community, Your Say". (The Document Can Be Accessed Via The Link)

Queanbeyan is a thriving, lively city set within a rural environment. It is a community with a heart based on its country values, its sense of belonging, its spirit and the warmth and friendliness of its people. By 2021 Queanbeyan will have a population of around 45,000 people who have chosen to live there because of the community spirit, the affordable lifestyle, the natural setting, the choice of rural residential or suburban living, the retail, health, education and cultural services, the prosperous economy and easy accessibility within the city, and to and from Canberra, Sydney, the mountains and the coast.

To move towards achieving the vision, Queanbeyan tomorrow proposes a wide range of actions called key directions and strategies under seven themes as well as review mechanisms for these actions. Since adopting the "Queanbeyan Tomorrow Community Vision on 20 September 2006, Council has put in considerable effort to determine what is the best way to give effect its actions. It is also important to note that Queanbeyan Tomorrow contains many actions where other stakeholders play the major role and Council plays a more supporting role. These efforts have included Council critically reviewing the actions in Queanbeyan Tomorrow in terms of which of these are currently being done, how are these to be best implemented, how long will it take to achieve them and how much will they cost? This process has also necessitated balancing the role that the "Queanbeyan Community Vision" should play in directing future Council actions/operations against the role of other key policy documents in the management plan process. All of these issues and others were discussed at length at Council workshops held in November and December 2006, and considered further by Council in January 2007 in the form of a detailed report on how
