The Local Government Road Safety Program represents a collaborative approach for achieving road safety in NSW. Initiated in 1992, the program aims to involve local government and local communities in road safety planning and activities in order to contribute to the state wide goal of reducing the incidence and severity of crashes.
The Road Safety Officer collects data such as road safety statistics, assists in the localisation of state wide road safety campaigns, works with the community and other key road safety stakeholders to develop local road safety campaigns, and assists the Police in publicising local enforcement operations.
Local road safety campaigns are undertaken in the areas of Bicycles, Child Restraints, Drink Driving, Heavy Vehicles, Motorcyclists, Older Drivers, Pedestrians, Roadworks, School Safety, Vehicle Safety and Young Drivers.
