Councillor Trudy Taylor
Trudy Taylor has been an active member of the Queanbeyan community for most of her life. A sixth generation Queanbeyan resident, she undertook her education in Queanbeyan’s public schools. After graduating from Queanbeyan High School, Trudy began her involvement in the local community through her work at The Queanbeyan Age – the city’s locally produced newspaper – where she worked for more than 22 years. During this time, Trudy worked in several positions, including as editor for about five years and manager for two years.
Trudy has a strong belief in the importance of community. Working at the local newspaper gave her the opportunity to develop enduring relationships with the city’s many service clubs including the Rotary Club of Queanbeyan West – a club she continues to regularly support. Her interests include tennis and she held several positions on the executive committee of the Queanbeyan Park Tennis Club for a number of years. As a qualified photographer, Trudy has also given freely of her time to the Queanbeyan Show Society over the last 10 years as honorary judge of the photography section.
As a Councillor Trudy has maintained her focus on her local community. She has worked to achieve a better lifestyle and amenity for those living in Queanbeyan, including the proposed Queanbeyan Sensory Gardens project planned for Ray Morton Park in East Queanbeyan. She has actively promoted the Queanbeyan Showground as a jewel of the city and, through her instigation, the Friends of the Queanbeyan Showground was formed in 2009.
As well as her Council work, Trudy enjoys a part-time position with SIDS and Kids ACT as a Fund Development and Communications Officer. This role allows her to continue with and expand her involvement in the local community.
