Councillor Tom Mavec

Social justice and the environment underpin the values I carry as one of your councillors. This involves always putting people first and trying to balance competing priorities.

Our fragile environment was here before us, nurtured by the Ngambri people, who we honour as the original custodians. We all have a responsibility to ensure that we leave future generations with at least as good a place as we inherited. To make this work, I place emphasis on issues of governance – the financial and social tools that Council uses to guarantee these issues are addressed effectively.

In the time that I have served on Council, 1977-1987 and 1999 - present, much progress has been made in these areas. 

The Environment and Sustainability Committee has dedicated funding and looks to an expanded role, having started as the River Corridor Committee.

With my experience as a local teacher, now retired, and links to the local community, I look forward to continuing in this exciting (and sometimes frustrating) role for many years to come. I look forward to hearing from you on these or any other issues facing you in our City.

Together we will build a better Queanbeyan now and for the future.
