Cr Sue Whelan
Councillor Sue Whelan was elected to Queanbeyan City Council in 1983 and re-elected at every election. Sue moved to Queanbeyan in 1973 and married a local, John Whelan and together they have three adult daughters and twin grandsons.
Cr Whelan has always been actively involved in community organisations including the YMCA where she is President and is also Chair of the BEC. Cr Whelan has been involved in Childcare organisations, Trees for Queanbeyan/Main Street Committee and West Queanbeyan Public School committees.
As a Councillor Cr Whelan has been involved in numerous Council committees. Cr Whelan is currently Chair of the Heritage Committee and the Queanbeyan/Palerang Library Committee.
Cr Whelan is a life member of the Australian Local Government Women's Association and in 2009 was awarded the "Women in Local Government Award" Elected representative - Regional/Rural Council for her contribution to Local Government.
Cr Whelan was also the first Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Regional Development - aimed at improving Economic and Social development in Regional NSW.
Promoting Queanbeyan as the best place to live and work is one of Cr Whelan's main priorities and this is reflected in all her involvement in the Queanbeyan community and beyond.
