Queanbeyan -Palerang Regional Council’s Waste Minimisation Centre (WAMI) located at 5 Lorn Road Queanbeyan  is for the use of  Council Residents only for the Free drop off of Green waste and listed recyclables.

Residents may also purchase green waste products.

Businesses are not permitted to drop off recyclables at the WAMI,  as it is for residential use only. Council staff have the authority to refuse items if deemed from a business.

Businesses can drop off Green waste for a fee and purchase green waste products.

Residents can drop off the following items for free:

  • Garden prunings and clippings which are too much/ too large to fit into the green waste bin
  • Rigid plastic containers
  • glass bottles and jars
  • metal containers
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Used motor oil (domestic quantities up to 20 litres)
  • Batteries
  • Fluorescent Globes
  • Mobile phones
  • Printer cartridges

Residents may also purchase shredded green waste suitable for use as garden mulch from this facility. If you wish to collect you can do so during the WAMI's opening hours, or delivery can be arranged at a fee.

The Waste Minimisation Centre is open from 7.15 am until 4.15 pm seven days a week except for Good Friday and Christmas Day. For more information contact the Waste Minimisation Centre on 6285 6139.

 Please note: Charges apply for Business Users dropping off green waste, and WAMI staff have the right to refuse loads if deemed contaminated or not the correct product for the facility.

Donations of Green Waste Products

At Councils Ordinary meeting of 23 September 2015 it was resolved that Council provide green waste products to Queanbeyan schools and community groups who can provide evidence of their not for profit status on the following basis: 

  1. Requests for assistance are to be made through the Councils Waste Minimisation Officer.
  2. A maximum of 20 cubic metres of shredded green waste per year may be provided subject to availability
  3. A maximum of 5 Cubic metres of decomposed green waste (soil conditioner) per year may be provided subject to availability.
  4. Where quantities required are less than 5 cubic metres the organisation will be required to make their own transport arrangements. Quantities of  5 cubic metres or more will be delivered free of charge within the Queanbeyan Area
  5. The community group or school is to provide Council with photos of where the green waste product has been used along with a good news story that can be used in the Queanbeyan City News newsletter to show case the product to all residents.
  6. The value of the green waste products to be published as donations in budgets and annual reports.
