‘Spot Joe Rider’ and win during Motorcycle Awareness Week

Simon McAdie and Andrew Scammell from Stay Upright with QPRC Road Safety Officer Joanne Wilson-Ridley

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is pleased to be collaborating with Stay Upright Rider Training this October to promote motorcycle safety during Motorcycle Awareness Week, running from 17- 23 October.

The focus of the campaign is to raise awareness of motorcyclists on local roads and encourage local motorcyclists to consider their safety when riding.

“Crash statistics tell us that motorcycle riders are over-represented in our local crashes” said Council’s Road Safety Officer Ms Joanne Wilson-Ridley.

“Motorcycles make up 5% of vehicles registered in Queanbeyan yet motorcyclists feature in 13% of Queanbeyan’s casualty crashes. And it is very much a local issue. The majority of motorcycle riders crashing in Queanbeyan are from Queanbeyan with 69% of our motorcycle crashes involving riders that reside in Queanbeyan.

“This project is about supporting our local riders to be safe and asking motorists to help by looking out for riders.”

Local residents can play their part by keeping an eye out for ‘Joe Rider’ during Motorcycle Awareness Week from 17 -23 October. Joe will be riding around Queanbeyan roads and surrounds in a bright yellow vest.
