Month of activities to celebrate Queanbeyan Heritage Festival

24 March 2015

A month of celebrations and exhibitions have been organised to celebrate Queanbeyan's rich and vibrant heritage.

The annual Queanbeyan Heritage Festival will be held from 9 April-9 May 2015 and will feature a range of exhibitions, meetings, discussions, tours and museum openings.

"Queanbeyan has such a long and proud history and Council is proud to present the 2015 Heritage Festival celebrations," Queanbeyan Mayor, Cr Tim Overall said.

"Many people may not realise, but Queanbeyan was settled long before Canberra, in fact, many residents of Queanbeyan played a major part in building our capital city. Our heritage was celebrated in style in 2013 when we recognised the 175th birthday of Queanbeyan being proclaimed a settlement. Over the years there has been much more done in regards to Queanbeyan's heritage and some of the work will be highlighted throughout the 2015 Heritage Festival."

The Heritage Festival will commence on 9 April 2015 with the launch at the Queanbeyan Library at 5.30pm.
