Ellerton Dr Extension Update

10 December 2015
Queanbeyan City Council will place an addendum to the Species Impact Statement (SIS) for the proposed Ellerton Drive Extension on public exhibition, at the end of the summer school holidays in early 2016.

Council previously exhibited the Review of Environmental Factors, the SIS, the preliminary design, and other documents from December 2014 to February 2015. This was followed by a Community Forum in April 2015.

As part of the development of the project, the design has changed since the exhibition period ended in February 2015, and these changes have affected the impacted footprint. The amended design has seen the footprint increase by 10.8ha to account for construction access for safety and environmental protection measures such as erosion control in construction. The increased footprint would impact on further areas of termite terrain which are a habitat feature for the vulnerable Rosenberg’s Goanna. These changes as well as a draft strategy to offset the environmental impacts will be addressed in an SIS addendum.

Council will place the SIS addendum on public exhibition on the advice of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage and comments received will be included in the draft Submissions Report.

An independent consultant has been assessing all exhibited documents to date, together with the draft Submissions Report. Following the public exhibition in early 2016, and further update of the draft Submissions Report, the consultant will prepare a draft Determination Report with recommendations for referral to the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage for concurrence.

Following the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage’s concurrence, the Determination Report will be presented to Council for consideration.

Dates for the exhibition of the SIS addendum will be confirmed in January 2016, however it will be exhibited for one month.
