An open community meeting will be held for members of the public interested in the proposed Ellerton Drive Extension.
Queanbeyan City Councillors last night unanimously agreed to hold a meeting during April and for it to be held in the Queanbeyan Bicentennial Hall.
The community meeting, to be independently facilitated, will include a presentation by Council traffic engineers, environmental consultants and will include significant time for questions and comment.
A Determination Report is to be written by an independent consultant which will make a recommendation regarding the project after reviewing all the documents regarding the project, including submissions from the public and interested groups during the consultation period.
Documents that were on public exhibition from December to February were:
- The Review of Environmental Factors
- Species Impact Statement
- Heritage Assessment
- Preliminary design
Feedback from the forum will be included in the Determination Report.
The Ellerton Drive Extension is a proposed extension that would connect east and west Queanbeyan and would be the main link for Googong and Jerrabomberra residents travelling to northern Canberra, including to the major business and industrial development areas in the ACT around the airport.
The adopted Googong and Tralee Traffic Study (2031) showed the proposed extension is the best option to alleviate gridlock in the CBD by 2017/18.
