$40,000 worth of donations on offer for Queanbeyan community groups and organisations

8 April 2015

Queanbeyan City Council is calling on non-profit or charitable organisations or groups based in, or affiliated with Queanbeyan to apply for their share of $40,000 worth of donations.

Applications are now open for Council's annual General Donations Scheme with interested parties required to submit their application by 4.30pm on Friday 29 May 2015. The General Donations Scheme is split into two categories, with category A providing direct funding to groups and organisations, while category B provides subsidised hire of Council-owned facilities.

"The General Donations Scheme has been very popular amongst the Queanbeyan community for many years and the funds donated through this process go towards many great community groups and events," Queanbeyan Mayor, Cr Tim Overall said.

"The Scheme provides Queanbeyan-based or linked community groups and organisations a chance to obtain funding, or subsidised hire of Council venues, for a range of activities and events they may be holding during the year.  The total budget for the General Donations Scheme is $50,000, however $10,000 is held aside for emergency donations during the year. The Donations Scheme has always been very popular in the community and I expect that to continue this year."

Following the collation on applications, a Council workshop will be held to assess applications. A report will then be tabled at the next available Council meeting for Council to formally adopt the recommended donation amounts.

Further information on the General Donations Scheme can be obtained from Council's website at qccoldsite.staging.elcomcms.com or from the General Manager's Office (inside Council Chambers) at 253 Crawford St. For further information on the Scheme call 6285 6223.

Applications for the General Donations Scheme will be accepted until 4.30pm on Friday 29 May 2015.
