The annual Heritage Awards recognise projects that maintain and promote the restoration, preservation and sympathetic additions and alterations to heritage buildings within the Queanbeyan Local Government Area.

The awards coincide with the National Trust’s Heritage Festival and the winners will be announced at the Queanbeyan Historical Museum on Saturday 16 April.

Winners of each category will receive a $1000 cash prize. Prizes will be awarded to the property owners, except in Category 3. Winners will be announced and presented during Council’s Heritage Festival celebrations on Saturday 16 April 2016 at the Queanbeyan Historical Museum.

There are three award categories.
1. Restoration of a heritage building – Commercial or Residential
2. New building design / Adaptation / Heritage Garden
3. Promotion / Contribution to Heritage

Queanbeyan Mayor Tim Overall said there was a great deal of care being taken in the refurbishment of older houses in Queanbeyan.

“A drive around the older parts of Queanbeyan is really a delight. On behalf of all residents I thank everyone who is investing in the heritage of this town and encourage all those who are eligible to enter.”
