Queanbeyan’s Honour Walk to grow

Four years after its opening, Queanbeyan City Council will call for more nominations for the Queanbeyan Honour Walk in Crawford St.

The Honour Walk was installed in the Crawford St Lifestyle Precinct in 2012 to recognise the outstanding achievements of Queanbeyan identities in sport, culture and the arts and also Queanbeyan identities who have played a signification part in contributing to and developing the Queanbeyan community.

“The establishment of the Honour Walk in 2012 was a great addition to the city and provided the opportunity to recognise some of the city’s outstanding achievers,” Queanbeyan Mayor, Cr Tim Overall said.

“The opening of the Honour Walk saw 22 of Queanbeyan’s highest achievers recognised with a bronzed plaques set into the pavement. Some of the names amongst the initial inductees include William Farrer, John Gale, ‘Queen’ Nellie Hamilton, Alured Tasker Faunce, Jim Woods, Hope Marland, David Campese, Mark Webber and many more.

“It was always the intention to grow the Honour Walk over time and we are looking to add another 5-10 names to the Honour Walk at this stage.”

Council will prepare the criteria for the Honour Walk and publicly announce the nomination process.
