QISC extension to increase year round sporting facilities for Queanbeyan-Palerang

15 June 2017
Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council has approved the development application and successful tender for the extension of the Queanbeyan Indoor Sports Centre.

“This is an exceptionally exciting project for Queanbeyan and the region,” Council Administrator, Tim Overall said.

“This project includes an extension to the sports centre with three additional multi-purpose sports courts, two squash courts to bring Queanbeyan Squash back home and the redevelopment of the existing facility to provide an indoor cricket court. The three additional courts will be able to be reconfigured into one large court for representative level futsal or other sports.”

“The centre already services more clients since the previous refurbishment in 2015-16, including local Queanbeyan residents and those that travel from other areas in Queanbeyan-Palerang or those from the ACT.

“The additional capacity that the extension will provide allows the centre to plan for a sustainable business model, as increased and more diverse patronage will be possible.”

The development application includes provisions for parking within the Seiffert Oval precinct, which will be upgraded and will also be made available to sporting users of Taylor Park.

Council was successful in obtaining a Community Development Grant from the Department of Infrastructure and Rural Development for the extension. Council determined on 25 January to accept the grant funding and in accordance with grant conditions allocated matching Council funding for the project.
