National Youth Week in Queanbeyan

National Youth Week, which runs from 8-17 April, will offer Queanbeyan’s youth amazing opportunities to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affect their lives, and create and enjoy activities.

Queanbeyan City Council, the Axis Youth Centre, the Queanbeyan City Library and The Q Exhibition Space have joined forces to celebrate the youth of Queanbeyan by offering everything from the creative arts to tug of war challenges – All FREE!

National Youth Week will be launched in Queanbeyan on Wednesday 13 April with a Youth Art Prize at The Q Exhibition Space which includes skate decks re-sprayed using street art techniques created in workshops with Graffik Paint.

“The skate decks have really developed over several weeks and the young people are really proud and cannot wait to see the impact against the white walls in the Q exhibition space,” Axis Youth Centre Youth Project Worker Zakia Patel said.

On Friday 15 April between 12-5pm, grab your super hero cape and head down to Queanbeyan Library for ‘Comic Fest’.  Well known comic book artist and writers Ryan K Lindsay and Shane W Smith pass on their skills followed by cosplay/costume competitions.

The fun keeps going from 4pm-7pm on 15 April at the Sunken Gardens in Queanbeyan Park with Youth Fest. Young people can mix it with junior raiders, listen to live music, grab a free meal and watch street art demonstrations.

“Youth Week is an opportunity to celebrate young people’s achievements, aspirations and ability to be leaders in our community. We really hope as many young people get involved in the activities and events happening,” Queanbeyan Mayor, Cr Tim Overall said.
