Help prevent your registration plates from being stolen

This month Queanbeyan Police, Queanbeyan City Council and Riverside Plaza will joined forces to ‘screw over a car thief’ by encouraging residents to have their vehicles fitted with anti-theft screws.

Since starting this crime prevention initiative in 2009 over 2000 anti-theft screws have been fitted to vehicles by Queanbeyan Police and Queanbeyan City Council staff. The message is stolen licence plates cost everyone. Not only will it cost the owner of the vehicle upwards of $50 depending on plate design to replace the plates but stolen plates can aid in committing other offences in our community.

Anti-theft screws can make a big difference to crime prevention in the community and reduce the frustration of replacing plates. These specially designed anti-theft screws cannot be unscrewed making it virtually impossible for someone to remove your plates. The removal tools for the screws are not available to the public said Senior Constable Nemec, Crime Prevention Officer for Monaro.

For your chance to ‘screw over a car thief’ have your registration plate fitted with FREE anti-theft screws at Riverside Plaza on Thursday 14 April from 2-6pm There is no need to book ahead just come and park your car in the designated area near the police van in the North Carpark cnr Collett and Morisset St.

For more information contact Senior Constable Nemec, Crime Prevention Officer for Monaro on 02 62984526 or Holly Catt from Queanbeyan City Council on 02 6285 6552.
