Community Development
Queanbeyan City Council is committed to building and sustaining a healthy and strong community. Council provides a range of community development programs and initiatives that support and implement key areas in Council's Community Strategic Plan.
Council employs two Community Development Officers whose primary role is to implement projects within a strength based community development framework. One of these positions, the Aboriginal Projects Officer focuses on community development projects designed for the Aboriginal community. The Community Development Officers collaborate and negotiate with a range of service providers and target groups to provide Council with information for the Community Strategic Plan on community needs and aspirations.
Community Development Projects
Council develops and implements community development projects and initiatives to address identified needs as outlined in the Community Strategic Plan. Council seeks funding to implement these projects and all projects are undertaken in partnership with other organisations, groups and the community wherever possible.
Community Development Committees
The Community Development section of Council has responsibility for the Local Government Aboriginal Consultative Committee.
Local Government Aboriginal Consultative Committee
This committee meets monthly and provides a vital link between Council and the local Aboriginal community, respecting the Aboriginal community’s rights to self determination and community empowerment. For information on this committee please feel free to contact (02) 6285 6202
Community Information
Council provides a framework for the provision of community information to the community. Information includes a hard copy directory, web-based directory, information on community meeting spaces, a community profile featuring demographic details of Queanbeyan, mailing lists and more.
