Ellerton Drive Extension
In 2008 Queanbeyan Council engaged Gabites Porter to create a transportation model of the Queanbeyan Local Government Area. The model which is called the Googong and Tralee Traffic Study: ·
- used 2006 Census Land Use data and traffic flows,
- analysed the current transport situation in Queanbeyan
- analysed, tested and optimised a number of 2031 future land use and infrastructure scenarios
- modelled a number of improvements to the road network whilst looking at deficiencies in the current and future traffic generation.
Queanbeyan will experience a boom in growth with the addition of new townships and subdivisions. Adding this additional development to natural growth will result in increased traffic flows and stress on our road network.
The traffic study found that the proposed Ellerton Drive extension is required to ensure that Queanbeyan’s road network, particularly around Cooma Street, does not fall below an acceptable level of service. The new link could also eliminate the need for clearways on Cooma Street and thus reduce the effects on local residential amenities.
The proposed link will commence at the current end of Ellerton Drive and link to the new Edwin Land Parkway intersection at Old Cooma Road. It is envisaged that the road will generally be a two lane road with provisions for cyclists.
