City Infrastructure

City Infrastructure Group

RoadworksThe City Infrastructure Group manages and maintains Council’s civil assets including roads, footpaths, drainage, water, sewer, reserves, cemeteries, parks and gardens.

Other work conducted by this Group includes implementing road safety programs, installing and maintaining road signage, assessing engineering aspects of developments applications, assessing event applications and assessing proposed works on Council’s road reserves.

Queanbeyan City Council manages assets with a total value of more than $560 million. Queanbeyan, like all councils in NSW is dealing with a cumulative situation where they have been trying to operate in a limited funding environment which has been set by other 30 years of rate pegging. In 2006 a report on the financial sustainability of councils in NSW noted that there is currently a $6 billion backlog in infrastructure renewals and this was expected to grow to $21 billion within 21 years.

Queanbeyan City Council has developed a program called CityCARE which aims to address its asset maintenance and renewal programs.
