Queanbeyan Showground

Queanbeyan Showground gatesThe Queanbeyan Showground Reserve embraces the Council motif “Country Living City Benefits” being an oasis of open space area in the heart of the city. The Showground adds to the “township” feel of Queanbeyan.

The Queanbeyan Show is the major user of the Reserve but don’t be fooled as there is a wide and diverse range of activities occurring at other times of the year. These activities include an annual rodeo, pigeon racing, dog club activities, pony club, circuses, car club, activities, promotions and swap-meets. The Pavilion is regularly used for meetings, church activities, collectable auctions and expos. The local Italian Community Festival is held at the Showground each year.

The Annual Show is held in November and is the most significant event on the calendar. While the Annual Show is held over the weekend, months of planning and hard work by the Queanbeyan Show Society goes into preparing for and organising this annual spectacular. Poultry judging, horse events, best in show livestock, Miss Showgirl and the much loved sideshows and amusements all need to be planned and organised.

The Friends of the Queanbeyan Showground; established in 2009 and similar to the Show Society; undertake projects and fund raising to ensure that there are improvements to the facilities. The Friends are a much valued and appreciated contributors to the Showground.

The facilities are operated by the Council’s Parks and Recreation staffs and undertake maintenance works and improvements to the Showground. In addition, the Park and Recreation staff controls bookings for the Showground.  If you wish to make a booking please contact Council on 02 6285 6000.

The Queanbeyan Showground is Crown Land and the Council has been appointed by the Minister of Lands as a Trust to administer and manage the facilities.  The Trust has been established under specific legislation, The Queanbeyan Showground (Variation of Purpose) Act 1995.
