The 2011 Queanbeyan Leagues Club Gift was held on Saturday 17 December and attracted a red-hot field of athletes.
Some of the nation's best male and female runners were on show with over $40,000 in prizemoney up for grabs. Making the 2011 Gift all the more special was the increase in women's prizemoney. For the first time in the history of the Queanbeyan Gift, runners in the Les McIntyre Women’s Gift competed for the same prizemoney as their male counterparts. In previous years the women have competed for much less than the men, however in line with Queanbeyan City Council’s commitment to gender equity both the men’s and women’s Gift were worth $16,000 with $10,000 going to the winner. The increase made the Les McIntyre Women’s Gift the richest footrace for women in Australia while the Queanbeyan Leagues Club Gift retained its status as the third richest men’s race in Australia.
