Fire Safety

Smoke alarms

Smoke alarms are life-saving devices, capable of detecting smoke well before it would be detected by a sleeping occupant. Smoke alarms must be installed in all new dwellings and in some circumstances dwelling additions. Smoke alarms must be hard wired to the electrical system by a licensed electrician.

Legislation requires that all NSW residents must have at least one working smoke alarm installed on each level of their home. This includes owner occupied, rental properties, relocatable homes or any other residential building where people sleep.

If you have a working smoke alarm you are reducing the fire risk to yourself and your family. Don’t forget to check your smoke alarm regularly and change the batteries.
