Databases

The library provides access to several online databases with journal and newspaper articles plus other up-to-date information. This service is provided through the State Library of NSW. You will need your library membership number to log on. The following is a list of the databases available:

The Australia/NZ Reference Centre combines Australasian magazines, newspapers, newswires and reference books to create the largest collection of regional full text content available to libraries in Oceania. This database includes leading Australia/NZ periodicals and international periodicals in full text; full text reference books; 84,774 full text biographies and an Image Collection of over 453,000 photos, maps and flags.

MasterFile Premier is designed specifically for public libraries, this multidisciplinary database provides full text for nearly 1,700 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also contains full text for nearly 500 reference books and over 164,400 primary source documents, as well as an Image Collection of over 460,000 photos, maps & flags. This database is updated daily via EBSCOhost.

Consumer Health Complete (CHC) is the single most comprehensive resource for consumer-oriented health content. It is designed to support patients' information needs and foster an overall understanding of health-related topics. CHC provides content covering all areas of health and wellness from mainstream medicine to the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated medicine. This full text database covers topics such as aging, cancer, diabetes, drugs & alcohol, fitness, nutrition & dietetics, children's health, men & women's health, etc. CHC offers a unique search interface designed to call attention to the full text content available from many important source-types, and provide an intuitive means for searching this specific information. Information provided in this database should not be viewed as a means for self-diagnosis or a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Literary Reference Centre is a full-text database that combines information from major respected reference works, books, literary journals as well as original content from EBSCO Publishing. Literary Reference Centre contains full text for more than 31,000 plot summaries, synopses and work overviews, nearly 100,000 articles/essays of literary criticism, more than 159,000 author biographies (including more than 22,000 in-depth bios), 450 literary journals, more than 632,000 book reviews, more than 69,000 classic and contemporary poems, more than 18,000 classic and contemporary short stories, more than 5,600 author interviews, more than 8,200 classic texts and much more.

Science Reference Centre™ is a comprehensive research database that provides easy access to a multitude of full-text science-oriented content. Designed to meet every student's science research needs, Science Reference Centre contains full text for hundreds of science encyclopaedias, reference books, periodicals, and other sources.

Points of View Reference Center is an interface intended for public, academic, and high school libraries. Points of View is designed to assist researchers in understanding the full scope of controversial subjects. High school and undergraduate students can use Points of View as a guide to debate, developing arguments, writing position papers, and for development of critical thinking skills. Each Points of View Essay includes a series of questions and additional material to generate further thought. Also included are thousands of supporting articles from the world’s top political and societal publications.

Academic Search Elite provides full text for more than 2,100 journals, including more than 1,700 peer-reviewed titles. In addition to the full text, indexing and abstracts are provided for over 3,650 journals. This database offers information in nearly every area of academic study.

Standards Australia Online Public Library Service is a comprehensive online collection of International and Australian standards, many with full text coverage. (Note This service is only available in the library please make a booking to use an internet terminal ph. 62856238)

Computer training

ComputerSchool.net is an online computer tutorial programme covering a range of topics including computer basics, Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet research and Web design. The password is your library membership code.
