Road Safety

The Local Government Road Safety Program represents a collaborative approach for achieving road safety in NSW. Initiated in 1992, the program aims to involve local government and local communities in road safety planning and activities in order to contribute to the state wide goal of reducing the incidence and severity of crashes.

The Road Safety Officer has a wide role encompassing not only behavioural road safety education but also influencing the construction of infrastructure to improve the safety of road users. Working with community groups the Road Safety Officer conducts road safety behavioural programs which address road and transport issues.

Workshops aimed at providing practical advice about the role of supervising drivers, and the importance of on-road driving experience and how it can be obtained. 

Safe Seniors seminars

Seminars provide education to local seniors on how health can affect driving, how to interact safely with the road environment and raise awareness of the new licensing laws. The seminars also provide an opportunity for discussion and questions regarding being an elderly driver, pedestrian or other road user (ie motorised scooter users) 

40 K for Kids

40 K for Kids targets speed around schools. The project aims to reach teachers, parents, children and the wider community in Queanbeyan/ACT in order to educate and promote the importance of complying with the 40km/h speed limit in school zones.
 
Stay 3 from Me

"Stay 3 From Me" focuses on educating and raising awareness within the community regarding the importance of staying 3 seconds from the vehicle in front and limiting rear end crashes.
 
Night Seen Night Safe

Night Seen-Night Safe focuses on improving safety standards for pedestrians in the local area. The project aims to increase visibility issues for walkers and cyclists, whilst also increasing community awareness regarding the importance of adopting safe night time behaviour around roads.
