Queanbeyan Respite

Queanbeyan Respite Services provides respite to families in the Queanbeyan and former Yarrowlumla Shire local government area.

Respite is a short break for a person with a disability and their usual carer and/or families. Respite can support both party’s access services and facilities in the community they may not normally have the time or opportunity to do or simply give them some time to relax. Our respite services are available to people with a disability (from 0 to 64 years) and their carers. The service is for people who have a moderate to high level of functional disability (as outlined by HACC and DSP guidelines) and the people who care for them. Respite can be provided in various places in the community, at the HACC Centre as well as in the family home.

A paid support worker or a volunteer can provide support to the person with a disability for a period of time. This is organised in advance by the person with the disability/carer and the co-ordinator of the service. There is a small fee involved in respite services. This is a contribution to the cost of care and is made by the client/carer. If the fee is difficult to pay, it can be negotiated with the co-ordinator in advance.

For all enquiries please contact the Queanbeyan Respite Coordinator on (02) 6285 6281.
